The New Addition

I have received my new addition to my shelf. A vintage Sears Tower box camera. I love the look of it. It was bought from ebay for USD$9.90.

A little history behind the camera:

Sears is the most famous mail order house in the world since its Chicago building Sears Tower was the highest in the world for a certain period. In the U.S.A. it was the greatest mail-order an retail vendor of consumer goods. It was founded by Richard W. Sears in 1886. It started as reseller of watches in North Redwood, Minnesota. In 1887 Sears moved to Chicago and employed Alvah C. Roebuck as watch- and toolmaker. In 1893 Roebuck became partner in the company which then was renamed Sears, Roebuck & Co.. Like other great mail-order houses Sears had a house-brand for cameras, the Tower cameras which were all OEM products, made by different renowned camera makers of several countries.

The Gingerbread Men

When it was time for the Gingerbread Boy to be done she opened the oven door and pulled out the pan. Out jumped the little Gingerbread Boy on to the floor, and away he ran, out of the door and down the street! The little old woman and the little old man ran after him as fast as they could, but he just laughed, and shouted,--

"Run! run! as fast as you can!

"You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!"
An Extract from "The Gingerbread Man"

I remembered the story as a little girl and to prevent any shortbread cookies (in the shape of gingerbread men) running away from us, we made sure we got the Fred cookie cutters to create gingerbread men with an arm, a leg or a head munched off. By the way, these were not any shortbread cookies, they were Monk Pear Tea shortbread cookies. Very buttery and scrumptious.
*Whispers* We won't deny that they may have been a couple of casualties as a result of them looking so irresistible. They were eaten on the pretense of taking a break from icing.

Loved spending the evening having red wine beef stew and baking with Denise. Always brightens my day to enjoy a girly day with her.

Of Old and New Images.

The problem with digital cameras is that you need to download pictures which I can get rather lazy in doing. However, when I do take the effort to download them, they are so beautiful. Well-worth every effort.

I have some lovely pictures to share of the home taken with panoramic lens, a night shot of the city during the Singapore Grand Prix and the Singapore Biennale 2008.

Enjoy!

A visually stimulating piece about things which are not what they seem from different angles. From one point in the room, this is a 3 dimensional piece but if you were to walk around the room, it breaks down.
A Taiwanese artist knitted a scooter, a toucan, a street lamp, and flowers, ivy, etc. Some parts of them have their ends connected to a motor which slowly deconstructs them into just a pile of yarn. This is to depict the destruction of the once thriving textile industry of Taiwan which is slowly destroyed by globalisation.

Hitching a Ride and the Morning After.

I love art in general but if I were to do still life, it would be an insult to the object. I think sticking to photography would be safer. With photography, I am still experimenting. Most of the shots in this blog were taken with an ordinary camera phone so that it would be easier to upload. So pardon me.

A baby lizard that decided to hitch a ride.
This is a tablescape of a typical post-breakfast table. And yes, I took the Starbucks mug home secretly. No prizes for guessing who sits on which end.

Mingle with the Birthday Crowd.

Yesterday, I was invited to Jones the Grocer for their 1st birthday bash. Being their regular customer, I was more than excited to be there. No photos of the bash except for the one of their cakes.

The perks of staying at Strathmore Ave is how close it is to town and the opportunity to head home to dress before a party.

Before I dolled up, I did take some photos of our master bedroom bathing in the glow of the evening sun before it set. Enjoy.

Party with the Ex-Colleagues

It's such a pity that we didn't take any pictures of our house blessing cum Grand Prix dinner. However, I did take pictures of the pretty mess left after our housewarming party with our ex-colleagues. They had the luxury of having coffee/tea and dessert with my pretty china.

The coffee table with lots of pretty pieces of china.

Our dining table littered with lunch ware and tea cups.

Voulez-Vous Toile?

I've been a little slow on adding the pictures for the bedrooms but I promise that I will.

Today in the mail, my ebay buy arrived. It's two yards of Waverly fabric from the Country House collection in the Cameo pattern. Very lovely. I bought it with the intention of redoing the cane chairs' seat cushions. I have tucked in the fabric around the existing seat cushions to have a realistic idea of how it would look like. I love it! Gorgeous. I have decided to try and squeeze in two cushions for the sofa also from the remnant.

I am continuously renovating my home. Making small changes now that the bulk of the major works have been done.

Keep your eyes peeled. Watch this space.

I couldn't resist but feature the latest flower change in our living room as well as the room from a different view.
